This is just one of those pictures I couldnt resist posting! The picture of one of the monkies from Lycos Gamesville's Dunk The Monkey is almost the spitting image of the monkey that claims to be the Prime Minister of Great Britain!

Save your thankses, Oi'll have a BanksesThe wicked witch is a bit pissed off cos someone told her she looked like Noddy HolderTheres no doubt that this picture of a witch (originally being tormented by a Dracula) from an email sent to me by mailbits.com, those wacky funsters who produce amusing Flash animations that encourage you to 'Mail to a friend', looks like 70's sideburn-sporting Black Country Glam Rocker, Noddy Holder. I've started testing the new layout with some of the data from the old pages and found that it needs re-formatting slightly, as the new layout leaves a wider area for the indexes because it only has two colums across instead of three like this clumsy layout lol. The blog works on the F2S space so I will have to incorperate that into the layout aswell.. that should be fairly easy any how.. its only a text file so SSI should solve that. It also means that I can import it onto the tripod site as well.

EEEEEEK! its her again!!And so she appears again lol. Just who the hell is she. This time, she was on doteasy.com's web page. Dont worry though, any new occurrences will appear on Black Coffee.

The new make over for this site is going well. SSI (server side Includes) will make it easy fore me to add/take away stuff from the main menu's without editing every single page of the site. Now that is a pain in the arse!! Because I used CSS on the new layout, I only needed to use one table for the entire page which will make it slicker, sleeker and so much quicker to download! When I've got the layout sorted and the new look in place, then I will start promoting the site to search engines etc.

Updating this is almost becoming a habit lol. I was looking through some of my favourites (bookmarks) and I noticed that TheGlobe.Com has gone tits up. As this happened to be on my free webspace index, I was a bit annoyed. So I will name and shame here: Moonfruit.com changed to a pay only service (although when they were free I couldnt access the site lol) Homestead (the less said about them the better!) went from free to pay and held any sites to ransom that were bigger than three pages and/or 8megs (Now thats what I call shitty) The mighty FortuneCity has gone from 100 megs to 25 megs (which to be honest is plenty anyway). NBCi dropped all their free webspace (to be honest, they did give members plenty of warning. The problem was, they reccomended thier users go to Homestead !?!). Affari. To also are not accepting new members.

Now I will be the first to admit you can only give away stuff for free for so long; if you cant fund it in any other way, then your stuffed basically. The fact remains that a lot of people who use these sites are people who probably wouldnt normally build sites if they had to pay for them, often very young or very old or unemployed etc. When you start designing a site, it is a learning curve and a very addictive one at that. People want to improve their sites and make them look better or learn new design/programming techniques. Unfortunately, free webspace providers are a victim of their own sucess and have to pay for bandwidth etc. Aparrently the banner ads that appear on the site are no longer that successful therefore the money doesnt come in.

So is this the end of free stuff on the web?? I say no. Some people would disagree. But I think the demise of some free sites is down to greed or nievity rather than anything else. People jumped on the band wagon when the web was new, bought a few servers, set up a freewebspace provider, sold banner space and made money from the banner clicks on their members sites. When the service waned, they didnt make money and couldnt afford to keep the service up. But whilst researching for this site, I have found more and more free webspace providers and I have a lot more in my favourites for when I redo the site!! Stick here if you want to find Stuff For Free On The W3!! (my new catchphrase for this site!).

Has anyone seen this woman? She's been bugging me for ages. I see her every so often on the net and in magazines...No I dont know her at all, but she must be a minor celebrity on the web or something. The first picture is from some debt assistance advert and the second is a picture I scanned in from a web-hosting advert in a 'net mag. Its definately the same bird. Whats more, I've seen her in other adverts on the web as well. If you see any more pics of her, email them to me! webmaster@blackcoffee.org.uk

Well I'm sitting here drinking my favourite beverage, feeling like a cat thats just got the cream. I was messing around till late last night trying to get NewsPro, a free CGI blog script to work on the mirror site www.coffeeaddict.f2s.com (Not active any more, but this site is still hosted with f2s winking cup emoticon) which is a great free 20 megs from Freedom2Surf,with full CGI and more!, and after much effing and blinding, managed to get it sorted. I had never used CGI before, except for SSI which is really simple, so I wasnt sure what to expect.

Basically, when you use CGI, you have to do what is called a CHMOD, which is a Unix command to define access authorities on files and folders with in the CGI-BIN directory. There I was getting more and more pissed off, so I went to F2S's FAQ's page and there it was in Black and White; they pre CHMOD all CGI files and if you try and re-CHMOD them, it fucks it up and wont let you access them!! So I had to upload all the files again and Bingo!! It worked. But thats not the end; I've still got to get it working, but hopefully that wont be too bad!

Now I've got the taste for CGI, I'm gonna mess around with forms mailing using a free mailing script from Matt's Script Archive. I did get forms mailing too work on Tripod, but they have a built in script to do that. If I can get this sorted (its more down to time than effort lol), then I will make a permanent move to F2S. Tripod are good though; I would reccomend them, but the ad banner slows down loading of the page and NewsPro isnt supposed to work on their servers. But most of all, F2s is British, free and no banners or ads!! (but they do admit their servise may be a bit unstable as it is new).

I havent updated the blog cos theres been very little happening lol. I'm still working on the new site design, but most of its on paper or in my head at the moment.

Stevie gave me herpes!!

So bored was I, that I decided to scan in this classic Sun newspaper headline..Freddy Starr ate my Hamster?? No..Stevie Wonder gave me Herpes lol(well not me personally lolol)

It turns out that a Miss McAfee (with a name like that she should be good at avoiding viruses lol) picked up the Herpes virus and Stevie never even told her he had it!! Anyway, she is sueing Stevie for it in true American style. Should have been like your namesake, Miss McAfee..the best way of avoiding viruses is to be protected against them in the first place! What I want to know is this: was it picked up from an infected Hard....drive?? or was it a Worm?? Only Mr Wonder has the answer.
